Unnecessary Sequel Alert

Matt Bradshaw over at Cinematical recently posted that director Ruggero Deodato has plans to make a sequel to his controversial 1980 film, . He has apparently been inspired by the success of Eli Roth's , and believes the American audience is now ready for the gorefest that would be Cannibal Holocaust II: Electric Boogaloo (ok, he hasn't announced the title yet). There are movies out there very deserving of sequels. For all I know, Hostel is one of those, and will be a good one. But Cannibal Holocaust wasn't one of those movies. It really lacked any redeeming (or entertainment) value for me. Instead of expanding the story, or increasing the number of graphic human deaths, Deodato chose instead to just show us the actual killing of several animals. I'm probably jaded watching it over 25 years after it was released, but I that's just not all that shocking to me. I could see why the authorities thought it might be an actual snuff film, but that's just a bit of historical trivia to me, not a reason to watch it. So what could the sequel possibly hold? Are there new bigotted anthropologists prepating to return to the site of the "holocaust" (I still maintain the body count was far too low to invoke that term) to kill off the rest of the tribe? Will it be Cannibal Holocaust II: Cannibal Genocide? Or will the tribal warriors come to the developed world for revenge, giving us Cannibal Holocaust II: Cannibals Take Manhattan? Or will it be a simple remake of the original, with digitally enhanced effects and scenes Deodato was forced for budgetary and legal reasons to leave out of the original? Cannibal Holocaust II: The Cannibals Shot First? I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say Cannibal Holocaust II will rank very highly indeed on the . Let's just hope Deodato doesn't collaborate with the great Uve and base the sequel on a video game. That could mean the end of the world as we know it.
