Tonight I got a heads-up from
Bruce. It seems there's
a Storm gathering on the internet, poised to take over our computers for who knows what nefarious purpose. The Storm worm has been slowing infiltrating as many as 50 million Windows-based PCs around the world. Thus far this botnet has seen only limited use; it's attacked some anti-spam companies and the website of a malware expert. Unlike previous high-profile worms, it's operating slowing, and it's adapting over time, changing its delivery method and keeping its Subject headers topical. But what's it's ultimate purpose? What will happen when it finally goes on an all-out offensive?
I think Bruce is definitely on to something when he suggests
Skynet may be coming. I think the robots seek to subjugate us by taking control of 90 percent of the computers worldwide. I know all of you at one time or another must have been a little disturbed to see the Windows logo show up on some critical computer screen. The scariest place I've seen it in a while was at a major hospital in Houston. Imagine the damage that could be done to us if the majority of Windows-based computers were suddenly tools of our mechanized enemies!
I'll keep my ears open. And remember not to open any email attachments!
