I don't know how he finds these things, but today I read Adam P. Knave's Around the Internet segment over at the footnote, and was amazed. He came across a story over at BBC News about a Capuchin monk who fronts a heavy metal band.
I'll let that sink in a moment.
Brother Cesare Bonizzi is a 62-year-old monk who has long used music "music as a means of contemplation and spiritual devotion." But when he attended a Metallica concert some 15 years ago, he fell in love with the power, energy, and passion of heavy metal. His band, Fratello Metallo released their second album, Misteri, this year.
It's good stuff, too. When my Google-fu failed me, Chad of the ElmoCast managed to dig up his website where you can listen to three tracks from Misteri. Metal works surprisingly well in Italian! He's been really digging it as well, declaring it to be excellent work music. I won't be at all surprised if Fratello Metallo receives prominent attention in his next episode. For myself, I am sorely, sorely tempted to order the album despite the massive shipping charges having it mailed from Italy. If this were available for purchase electronically, I would already own it.
Go check it out for yourself!

Here he is on stage at Gods of Metal, the largest heavy metal festival in Italy, where he opened for the likes of Iron Maiden, Slayer, and Judas Priest.

Heh, and I've heard the exact
Heh, and I've heard the exact same argument from some Catholics I've met about how none of the other denominations are true Christians too. :P
Silly! Ask any of the Good
Silly! Ask any of the Good Christians around you, they'll be happy to explain how Catholics aren't real Christians, and the Catholic church is the Whore of Babylon, so of course a Catholic monk playing heavy metal is just more evidence that the pope is Satan's bitch.
