Random Road Debris

My Fourth of July ended on rather a downer note.  As I was driving home from Dustin and Jess's place after midnight, I suddenly heard a loud hissing followed immediately by the unmistakable slapping of rubber against concrete at high speed.  I pulled off the road as soon as I found a suitable spot, and confirmed that one of my tires was totally flat.  I changed it out as fast as I could (since I have an almost worthless jack, it took forever), then went on home, planning to deal with it later, when Discount Tire was open on Monday.

I drove the Ragged Tiger on up to Discount Tire's N. May location this morning, and to my amazement, they presented me with this:

Found in my tire
The cause of my flat

Sadly, this was not a case where the tire could be simply repaired for free.  And, as it turned out, the rear tire on the other side had sufficient sidewall damage from running with a long-standing leak that it needed replacement as well.  But the guys gave me a discount on the price of the tires and a free replacement warrantee for the life of the tire, so I feel pretty good about how things worked out.  As many times as I run into tire trouble, it's good to know that two of the tires are now fully covered so long as they have tread.

As before, I'm thrilled with the customer service I received at Discount Tire.  They took care of the problem, checked the rest of my tires, and offered their recomendations without pushing more expensive or unnecessary options on me.  Everyone was friendly and professional, making it a pleasant experience for all.  They even apologized for not returning my spare to the well under the floor of my trunk, even when I told them the issue was I was simply too lazy to clean out the trunk to make the well accessible.  If you're in the market for tires or tire repairs, I highly recomend paying them a visit.
