HeroesI'm late in getting this one out.  By the time last night's wrapped up, my allergy medicine had me so sleepy it was all I could do to make it to the bedroom before I fell asleep.  But better late than never! "One of Us, One of Them" wasn't one of the more action-packed, edge of your seat episodes.  It was a set-up episode, laying out the major plots we're going to see for the rest of this third season.  It worked well as such, though they unfortunately did not take some of the openings they'd left themselves for some superpowered action sequences. As always, spoilers follow....

This weekend, I had the opportunity to give Angel a little test to see if she will be able to handle going camping.  Jess and James held a combination housewarming and birthday party out at their place in Choctaw, and they invited any of us who came to stay the night rather than make the late-night drive back to the city.  Angel and I took them up on it, going to far as to bring out tent and camp out on their property.

HeroesFinally, after all these months, the new season of , entitled "Villains," has begun. As expected, they got off with a bang, and picked up pretty much where the last season left off.  I will admit, I watched the two-part premier with a bit of trepidation and probably more of a critical eye than I have been.  I was worried they wouldn't be able to keep up the quality and pace they've shown in the past, especially with the introduction of some of the weaker storylines we got last season.  But I was certainly happy with what I saw tonight.  They've got the opportunity to explore some really big and interesting questions, if they follow through on some of the seeds they've planted. And so, here be spoilers...

International Space StationTonight, I got to share a wonderful opportunity with my daughter. It just so happened that the was going to be visible from our back yard starting at 8:29pm tonight.  We hurried through our regular evening routine so we could be standing out back when she raced across the sky.  We stood there in awe as a bright dot rose from the southwest and sailed across the dome of the heavens to set in the northeast.  It was truly a glorious site, especially once it got up into the darker part of the sky.  Even with all the light pollution of living in the city, we could make it out clearly and could tell this was no mere star or airplane.

Avast, me hearties!  Tomorrow is !  This is one of my absolute favorite holidays, and I plan to speak in all manner of piratical idiom whenever possible.  I encourage you to celebrate your pirate heritage (whether you have any or not... a true pirate would just take the heritage by force) and pepper your speech with . And remember, no one can tell you you're not a pirate:

thesixtyoneThanks to , I've gotten myself addicted to yet another website.  It's called , and it turns the discovery of new music into a type of MMO.  The idea is that you log in and listen to songs streamed through the site.  When you come across one you like, you "bump" it, spending some of your points to nudge the song up in the popularity rankings.  If the song continues to get bumped up by other listeners/players, you earn points back.  The most popular songs wind up hitting the homepage.  You can also earn points by listening to "The Rack," which plays songs that haven't yet risen to the homepage.  There are also achievements, like you find on the Xbox 360, which you can earn.  The more points you earn, the higher a level you achieve and the more songs you can bump.

Velociraptor Attack!I like to think I'm fairly well prepared for our impending doom.  I have a plan to save myself during the zombie apocalypse.  I know there's nothing we can do to stop our robot overlords unless we resume aboveground nuclear testing in an effort to create a giant, radioactive, fire-breathing dinosaur saviour.  But there's one thing I'm definitely not prepared for. Velociraptors.

ReaperI don't watch a huge amount of television ordinarily.  I have a few shows I do follow pretty religiously, as readers of this site must know by now, but those are the exception rather than the rule.  Consequently, sometimes pretty good television shows fly totally under my radar.  I never saw Firefly, for instance, until someone lent me the DVDs well after the series was cancelled.  I didn't join the legion of Lost fans until the second season began.  And I never even heard of until a few weeks ago.  told me about the show a little while back, saying it sounded like a show right up my alley.  He thought the show was hilarious and figured I'd appreciate it, too.
