For tonight's dinner, I decided to fix some "posh" pigs in a blanket.  In an effort to be somewhat healthy, I grabbed a recipe for a wilted spinach salad with warm feta dressing from Epicurious.

I love the show Supernatural.  One of the many reasons I enjoy it so much is actor Jensen Ackles, who plays older brother Dean Winchester.  It's like he was born to play that role.  Here he is having some fun on the set:

It's ok to shake them a little, just to let them know you're seriousIt's ok to shake them a little, just to let them know you're seriousWell, it's been over a year since my last report of a robot attack, so I'd say we're long overdue.

Jessika pointed me at an article over at io9 detailing the latest skirmish in the robots' war for global domination.  It appears a technician went in to repair a malfunctioning rock-lifting robot, whereupon it grabbed him by the head and shook him viciously.  Before he managed to escape the steel deathgrip, he had suffered four broken limbs.  The local court found the company at fault, though I'm not convinced.

This weekend, I decided I needed to start making real Sunday dinners again.  It will be a good start toward cooking full meals more regularly.  So I popped out to the grocery store and grabbed the ingredients for this:

I love good food, and I actually do enjoy cooking, but for far too long I've really been just too lazy do much.  By the time I get home from work, I'm pretty wiped out and don't want to spend a lot of time on meal preparation, preferring instead to toss something in the microwave and scarf it down in my recliner.  My mother knows my lazy tendencies all too well, and she knows even better that harping on my failings is pretty much the worst way to get me to change.

Mothers, of course, are sneaky, sneaky people.  And mine has had to be doubly so to raise someone as completely bull-headed as me.  Lately she has been watching a lot of cooking shows, especially those starring chef Gordon Ramsay, and she caught on to my own interest in the same shows when I would sit up watching them with her whenever I visited.  I've always enjoyed foodie shows myself, and used to watch them all the time back when I had cable, but haven't caught any lately.

When I went through and revised how my movie review posts are handled on the site, specifically when I added a page to list them by rating, I realized that I watch way too many awful movies, and have reviewed far too few good ones.  So when I sat down to watch Man on Wire on Dustin's suggestion, I knew I finally had something good to write about.

On August 7, 1974, Philippe Petit set out to do the impossible.  He and an international group of accomplices snuck into the World Trade Center to string a wire between the Twin Towers so Philippe could walk across.  After years of planning (Philippe had know he had to do this since the day he saw an article about the start of construction of what was to be the tallest buildings in the world), numerous setbacks, and a harrowing night on the roof, they pulled it off.  A quarter of a mile above the streets of New York City, one seriously crazy Frenchman walked a two-hundred-foot tightrope for the sheer beauty of the act.
