Dragon*Con 2008 - The Drive

What is potentially the worst thing about is the travel.  I live in Oklahoma City, which puts Atlanta some sixteen hours away by car.  I've been on a lot of very long road trips in my day between cross country moves as part of my father's military careers and various vacations.  On the whole, I do prefer the road trip to flying, especially in this day and age of airport "security."

High Point of Dragon*Con 2008

I'm finally home and starting to recover from 2008.  I had a blast while I was out there, and plan to detail it all over the course of several posts.  I wanted to start with the absolute best part of the whole convention, at least for me. When packing for the con, the some of most important items I tucked into my suitcase were all the print copies of podcast novels I've managed to collect.  I was looking forward most to seeing the authors and getting their autographs this time around.  The two key items, though, were a pair of special hardbacks.

Mighty Monday

Playing for KeepsWe had .  Double Trouble rocked the Amazon charts, too.  Now it's time to help the conquer Amazon with . Mur is one of the biggest reasons I listen to podcasts at all.  I first heard her when she was on Pseudopod, and enjoyed her voice so much I followed her back to her own podcasts and fiction.  I wasn't sure audio fiction would really hold my attention the way a physical book does, but I soon learned different.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Double Trouble is upon us! Tomorrow, 08.08.08, is the day that Tee Morris and Philippa Ballantine are both releasing their new novels on this auspicious Friday.  Starting at 8:00AM Pacific time, both authors are calling upon their fans to make a run on Amazon to once again show the powers that be the true power of internet marketing.

Podcast Fiction Done Right

Escape PodToday while I worked I decided to queue up the latest episode from , the Science Fiction Podcast Magazine.  I've been listening to the podcast for quite some time now, and have found several gems in their stream.  This morning, I had the pleasure of listening to what I think is my absolute favorite story they've done so far, "How I Mounted Goldie, Saved My Partner Lori, and Sniffed Out The People’s Justice" by Jonathan Sullivan.

7th Son: ObsidianOnce upon a time, author and podcaster asked for help from his fans.  He asked us all to promote his latest project, to our friends.  Being a huge fan, I was all about it I sent out the requisite emails and even figured out how to embed his in a post.  Everything went well, and I heard that same promo over a dozen times in various podcasts that week.

Was it worth it?

InfectedLike any good Original Junkie, I was out at the bookstore on April 1ST, grabbing my copy of Infected: A Novel. I love 's fiction, and really enjoyed the original podcast of the novel. So I was all about supporting him as he mounted his offensive against the very New York Times best seller list. He's trying to force a paradigm shift in the publishing industry, and I wanted in on the revolution. Plus, art deserves to be rewarded, and good writing, whatever the genre, is definitely deserving art in my world. The big question, of course, is: "Was it worth it? Worth the cost of a hardback novel?"
