As many of you probably know or have guessed, I've made a bit of a second gome at Séan Cummings Irish Restaurant and Pub.  It's a place a head whenever I feel like a fantastic meal with some great friends just about any time of the week.  Monday nights, I'm always there, for the musical stylings of Patrick Sawyer, followed by Open Mic Night.  And any other night, there's a decent chance I might show up for a bit and a pint after work.  Brianna loves it there as well, and I bring her in whenever I can.  It is a pub in the best sense of the word, a family establishment where we can go any time we want good food and even better companionship.  I'd been looking for such a place ever since moving up to OKC from Austin, and I was blessed to find one in easy walking distance from my house.

Sadly, the have moved.

Tales of the Arabian NightsTales of the Arabian NightsIt's too bad Jessica and Deryck couldn't make it out to Little Shoppe of Games tonight.  I think they both would have really enjoyed what Bruce (also known as Game Store Bruce to differentiate him from Lost Researcher Bruce) brought out.  Brianna had opted out of joining the two of us at a table, preferring to hang out with Sam, who runs the store on Family Game Night, so Bruce and I needed to pick a game that could accomodate just two player.  Tales of the Arabian Nights looked like just the thing.

Tales comes to us from Z-Man Games, so you know it's a quality product.  I've yet to play any of theirs that I haven't enjoyed.  The box is massive and seriously weighty; the board, playing pieces, and even the spiral-bound Book of Tales are all both rugged and gorgeous.  While the setup is a little intense and the game looks fairly complicated, it turned out to be quite easy to play and a whole lot of fun.

Wasabi!Wasabi!Tonight was a great Family Game Night at the !

A little while back, on a night when Brianna wasn't really in the mood to play anything, Jessica and I had our friend Bruce, another Tuesday night regular at the game store, show us how to play from .  Bruce has an extensive collection of really cool games, and usually brings several with him.  Wasabi! gave us a chance to play at being sushi chefs, completing different recipes using a variety of different ingredients.  Since Brianna loves sushi, we thought she'd enjoy joining in, and we were right.

Zombies!!! Any game that helps prepare you for the coming Zombiegeddon is a good one, in my book.  Some, of course, are better than others, and from , is one of the very best.  The basic game is an insanely fun romp through a town while trying to either kill twnety-five undead assailants or be the first player to make it to the rescue chopper.  Over the years, numerous expansions have been created for the game, adding a mall, a university, catacombs, even a circus.  Playing with all of the available expansions is a special kind of madness I have only attempted once. Last week at , we played a rousing game of Zombies!!! and enjoyed it tremendously.  As we were getting ready to leave, I gave into an impulse and used some Christmas money to pick up the latest expansion to the Zombies!!! universe, which can also be played as its own stand alone game.

LegerdemainWhile wandering the dealer and exhibitor halls at , I came across an interesting booth.  What caught my eye initially was a screenshot with a very distinctive graphical style, something I've seen many times before.  It was a shot from a "Rogue-like" computer game.  I've loved that style of game ever since I first encountered Rogue on the Atari 1040ST back in the early '80s.  I've played most of them at one time or another; Hack, Nethack, Angband, the list goes on and on.

Playing GodsLast night was a good night at had bought a new game while we were at , and brought it along.  From everything I'd seen and heard at the booth at the con, sounded pretty awesome, and I was really excited to see it in action. As you might guess from the name, each player plays a god.  You can pick from the predefined set that covers the current major world religions or pick something a little more ancient or esoteric.  The goal is to establish yourself as the single dominant religion on the planet.  You accomplish this by converting or destroying all the followers of all the other gods in the game.  The last god standing wins.

Hmmm, what to play next? One of the things I have really enjoyed about watching my daughter grow up has been seeing her mind get sharper and sharper. I can really see it when we play games together, as we did last night at . I've always tried to make a point of getting and playing age-appropriate games with her, not so much out of a fear of exposing her to something inappropriate as much as so I don't have to hold back at all and let her win. I think it's better for her to win on her own merits. And last night she definitely did.

As we were getting ready to leave the last night, I mentioned to Lane that I had been by Borders before coming out and picked up a copy of Cloverfield. He said he'd been wanting to see it, so I asked him what was on the schedule for Wednesday night at the store. Wednesday is Rifts night, but the group has had some trouble getting together, so he suggested I come on out with the movie. If enough of the gaming group came, I could play one of the absent players' characters; otherwise, we could watch the movie.

We had a really good Family Game Night at Little Shoppe of Games last night. D&D had been canceled the night before so Lane could close up shop early to attend to a friends birthday, so I was really needing some quality gaming.

Due to changes in my daughter's schedule, we're now able to have dinner together on Tuesday nights. This means, of course, that she's going to start joining me for Family Game Night at the . She's been very excited about this ever since we first talked about it, doubly so when she found out I scored a copy of for my birthday.
