I love the show Supernatural.  One of the many reasons I enjoy it so much is actor Jensen Ackles, who plays older brother Dean Winchester.  It's like he was born to play that role.  Here he is having some fun on the set:

While I was driving from work this afternoon on the way to pick up my daughter, I noticed something clinging to my windshield. I immediately thought it was either a ticket (though I had no idea what I might have gotten a ticket for) or a note from someone who had dinged my car in the parking lot. I knew it hadn't been there in the morning, since I'd had to scrape the ice off the car.  I quickly became annoyed with the possibility that I had either gotten a ticket for no good reason, or that someone had left some as-yet undiscovered damage on my pretty blue car.

thesixtyoneThanks to , I've gotten myself addicted to yet another website.  It's called , and it turns the discovery of new music into a type of MMO.  The idea is that you log in and listen to songs streamed through the site.  When you come across one you like, you "bump" it, spending some of your points to nudge the song up in the popularity rankings.  If the song continues to get bumped up by other listeners/players, you earn points back.  The most popular songs wind up hitting the homepage.  You can also earn points by listening to "The Rack," which plays songs that haven't yet risen to the homepage.  There are also achievements, like you find on the Xbox 360, which you can earn.  The more points you earn, the higher a level you achieve and the more songs you can bump.

Fratello Metallo - MisteriI don't know how he finds these things, but today I read 's Around the Internet segment over at , and was amazed.  He came across a story over at about a Capuchin monk who fronts a heavy metal band. I'll let that sink in a moment.

Review their music and Metallica will eat you aliveA long, long time ago, I heard a song called "Master of Puppets" and immediately became a fan of the metal band Metallica. For years, I devoured everything they produced, dutifully running out to buy up each cassette (and later CD) as they came out. When Load and Reload came out, a lot of fans I knew drifted away, unhappy with the direction the music seemed to be taking, but I liked the albums and rolled with the band's changes.

Yesterday, I was finally catching up on my podcasts, and I got to listen to the first audio entry in 's series. She put together a promo for a (sadly!) non-existent podcast. I would subscribe to a horror for the younger set podcast in a second, and share it with my daughter. I did get her a copy of when she was younger, after all. The best part was the song she included in the promo: "" by Tom Smith, part of the . Take a listen:

Metal makes everything better. I had this driven home a while back when I discovered , the Beatles/Metallica mashup band. I'm not actually that big a fan of the Beatles, truth be told, but they're songs actually become awesome when they're Metal tunes, particularly when combined with some old-school Metallica lyrics to boot. And drove this home again last night when she emailed me a video from:

BriannabirthIt seems like only yesterday my little girl looked like the photo here. I was going through some files for an earlier version of this site and found my original photo gallery setup, so I had to download them all so I can start moving them over to Flickr. She gets that ginormous head from me, of course; I sometimes have trouble finding hats that fit. She's always been photogenic and a huge ham, so I've got some great pictures to upload. My favorites are from before she learned to fake smile, back when every grin was genuine. Nowadays, of course, she's all grown up, turning nine this summer. One the one hand, this means she's old enough to argue intelligently with me and less likely to take "because I said so" as a valid answer. On the other hand, she's big enough to put to work when we spend a day doing yard work.
