This past Friday, I took the opportunity to go out to the Paseo District for this month's Art Walk.  Specifically, I dropped by Studio 164, the gallery I wrote about a little while back.  In addition to art from my friends Kathy and TheDeryck, Jessica was providing samples of her home-made jams for tasting.

From what I saw, the night was a great success.  Everyone who tasted the jam commented on how wonderful it was, and many bought jars on the spot.  Even I found it quite tasty, and I normally can't stand jellies and jams.  The art was equally impressive.  I had seen and enjoyed Deryck's pieces before, but I had no idea Kathy was such a talented painter.  There were works by several other artists I hadn't seen on my previous visit, as well, many of which I would live to have on my walls.  Sadly, my own budget precluded taking all of them home with me.

The piece I did wind up buying was part of TheDeryck's "Kinder" series.  He has been experimenting with a new style of multi-level "floating" frames which impressed me, and one frame in particular caught my eye immediately.  The picture itself was also eye catching, a color print of a cracked baby doll head with blue eyes that really popped out of the picture.  Though I circled the gallery several times looking at all the wonderful pieces that would look great on my walls, I kept coming back to this one.  And in the end, I had to have it.

It now occupies a place of honor on my wall (as promised, not on the same wall as my velvet Elvis), and hangs someplace I can see it from my favorite chair.  I'm looking forward to future visits (and purchases, as my budget allows), and I'm even considering commissioning a piece in the coming months.

Desert Rose

Last year, Brianna and I picked up a desert rose (or adenium) on sale at Home Depot.  I'm terrible with growing things, but it looked so funky we couldn't pass it up.  And despite being a desert plant, it looked like just the sort of thing in which Yoda would feel at home, so we immediately installed him in his new abode.

Much to my great surprise, the desert rose has turned out to be a tremendously hardy plant.  A year later it's still thriving, despite having gone through at least one phase where it lost most of its leaves due to over or under watering (or perhaps a combination of both).  When I discovered it blooming again, I had to take pictures to prove it.

This was supposed to be this week's Sunday dinner, but by the time Brianna and I left the Zoo, we were both pretty dead on our feet, so we went out to eat instead.  With plenty of fresh ingredients in the fridge, I knew I had to cook tonight, however.  I couldn't let that deliciousness go to waste.

For tonight's dinner, I decided to fix some "posh" pigs in a blanket.  In an effort to be somewhat healthy, I grabbed a recipe for a wilted spinach salad with warm feta dressing from Epicurious.

This weekend, I decided I needed to start making real Sunday dinners again.  It will be a good start toward cooking full meals more regularly.  So I popped out to the grocery store and grabbed the ingredients for this:

Today I made a brief trip to the store to make sure I have enough supplies to last through the coming ice storm.  Good thing, too, since by the time I got home, my street was so coated with ice that I missed the driveway and slid right up to the curb.  While I was at the store, I saw this product, that made me thing of my friend Jade.  He knows why.

At long last, I finally got my Halloween photos uploaded to Flickr.  Due to a dying camera battery, I didn't get near as many shots as I would have liked, and no video at all, unfortunately.  But I did manage to get a lot of good ones. Once again, Brianna and I set out for the annual trick or treating extravaganza at the .  This ye

Share photos on twitter with TwitpicIt's finally here, the greatest holiday of all! While this has been a rough month for me both in terms of disposable income and costume inspiration, I did manage to get something together.  I suspect I am the only one in my building wearing a costume today.  Here I am, your local mad scientist, member of the <

Official VillagerI live in the City of the Village, Oklahoma, a fact which amuses me to know end.  Technically, this makes me a villager.  And I always thought that when I moved in, I should have been issued a torch and pitchfork so we could periodically storm windmills or lighthouses or nearby keeps. Brianna came over to the house for dinner tonight before we both went down to Family Game Night at Little Shoppe of Games.  While she was here, we took the opportunity to go outside and check the progress of our sunflower garden.

Look at that height!

They've grown enormous!  The tallest plants in the picture above are taller than I am, somewhere between six and a half and seven feet.  A good number of them tower over Brianna, and several of the flowers themselves are almost the size of her head.
