Review their music and Metallica will eat you aliveA long, long time ago, I heard a song called "Master of Puppets" and immediately became a fan of the metal band Metallica. For years, I devoured everything they produced, dutifully running out to buy up each cassette (and later CD) as they came out. When Load and Reload came out, a lot of fans I knew drifted away, unhappy with the direction the music seemed to be taking, but I liked the albums and rolled with the band's changes.

Indian Call CenterLive without the Internet is practically not worth living. This is the lesson we learned from the latest episode of South Park. I know I'm practically paralyzed without my internet connection. In an irritating case of life imitating art, I woke up this morning to find my DSL out.  I've had it drop before for no reason; it's part of the deal when you sign up with any service provider.  I did all the standard steps to try and reconnect; turning everything off and back on again, checking the wires, unplugging and replugging everything.  No dice.  So I dug out my cell phone, where I cleverly have my land line number stored (I don't usually have a phone plugged in at the house), jotted down that number and the one for tech support, hooked up my analog phone, and called in.

Dustin, good friend that he is, called me today to gloat that he was off work today and spending time with his girls. But he also wanted to let me know there was a great sale going on at CompUSA; he had just purchased 2GB of RAM for his desktop machine for $79, and another 2GB for Jessika's laptop at the same price. I naturally got all excited and made plans to head over there after work to quadruple my own laptop's RAM. I went even further to go through all of their sale items to see what it would cost to set me up for the Freevo box I've been wanting to build. Dustin gave me his old machine over the weekend, minus things he needed to keep like hard drives, and all that's (hopefully) wrong with it is a bad power supply. So I had come up with a pile of things I wanted to go ahead and at least look at, if not pick up, while I was at CompUSA.
