Honoring our Fallen Comrades

Last night we got together, possibly for the last time, to team with REPENTOR. I've probably been playing the game with him for the better part of two years, and I'm sad to see him go. But his work schedule and personal life offline are both taking precedence, as is only right. Like me, he has been losing interest in the game for a while now because it is becoming increasingly rare to find anyone else he knows to team with when he can get online. I can definitely relate, as I'm contemplating letting my own account lapse before too much longer, but it's a shame to see him go. We've had some great times together.

End of the Line for Paragon City?

The WarCry Network recently released details of City of Heroes Issue # 9: "Breakthrough". The summary follows:
Breakthrough, the ninth free expansion to the City of Heroes™ universe, introduces an entirely new level of depth and gameplay to the franchise. Players acquire and invent new "loot," and have the option to buy and sell it using the new hero and villain auction houses. Along with Issue 9's other great features, this brand new system results in a wealth of new gameplay for players.

CoX Takes a Disturbing Turn

Baby New YearThe 2006 Winter Event has begun on City of Heroes and City of Villains. In an entertaining turn of events, a ski resort has been opened up outside of Pocket D where heroes and villains alike can hit the slopes or relax in the chalet in front of a roaring fire with a hot cup of tea. They can also team up and get a new mission from Father Time, the goal of which is to rescue this freak of nature, Baby New Year, from our old friend Snaptooth. I've run this mission six or seven times so far (there are four different badges you can get as a reward, two confer costume pieces, and two give you temp powers). It's rather a fun mission, taking place in a wintry Croatoa, where you can fight Snow Beasts on ice. But it always ends the same way, with all the team members running back to the mission entrance pursued by this horribly disproportionate and oddly ambulatory baby. The goal of the mission is to rescue him and lead him out, but it always winds up looking more like we're fleeing in terror from this horror from beyond.

New CoX Screenshots

With the new costume options that came with City of Heroes/Villains Issue 9, I decided it was time to bite the bullet, jack my graphics settings way up, and take a few screenshots. Fortunately, my video card did not actually burst into flame as feared, but poor Enki complained mightily at the processing power needed to render the game for the duration.

It's that time of year again

It's the big Halloween event in Paragon City and the Rogue Isles. Once again, it is perpetual night, you can trick or treat on any door in a level-appropriate zone, and the giant monsters Eochai and Jack in Irons are spawning all over the place. Halloween is one of those times when the devs con us into gathering together in large numbers and heading out to do boring, repetitive tasks for hours on end, just to get a handful of badges.
